Frame/chassis

Massive frame design
The massive, tubular frame design for all 5430i series sprayers provides the solid foundation for large solution tanks and wide spray booms offering the following features and benefits:
- The frame is made to withstand toughest field conditions at high spraying speeds of up to 20km/h and high speed road transport of up to 40 km/h.
- High under frame ground clearance of up to 110 cm to reduce crop damage.
- Low centre of gravity to provide high stability even when spraying at narrow tread, on hilly fields or using the 4-wheel steering during headland turns.
- One common platform for all options. This allows easy upgrading or modifications to the sprayer at a later stage, such as retrofitting a trailer hitch or exchanging complete spray booms.
- Well balanced weight distribution to ensure maximum traction and reduce soil compaction.
Engine-Cab-Tank-Boom Configuration
The 5430i sprayer has been designed with the engine at the front, cab and solution tank in the middle and the boom at the rear. This design offers an extremely well balanced vehicle whether the booms are folded or unfolded and the solution tank is full or empty.
In addition the cab in the middle, in an elevated position offers excellent near 360 degree visibility.

Heavy duty axles
The 5430i series self propelled sprayer features a heavy duty, high speed axle offering durability and safety. It has been designed to carry the maximum loads of the sprayer with full tank under tough conditions in the field and at high transport speeds of up to 40km/h on the road.

Track width adjustment
Different track widths can be required to spray various row crops or when using different tramline systems. The 5430i sprayer is available with manual or hydraulic tread adjust:
The mechanical tread adjustment is standard on all 5430i sprayer. The track width can be adjusted manually and steplessly to any desired tread (minimum and maximum tread depend on tyre size)
The hydraulic tread adjust option is the most convenient solution to quickly change tread from one spray job to the other without leaving the cab. A hydraulic cylinder moves the axle in or out to any desired track width depending on the settings in the GreenStar display.

Independent wheel strut suspension with airbags
The 5430i sprayer is equipped with an independent wheel strut suspension with airbag springs. It´s full suspended chassis provides striking performance under all conditions in the field and on the road:
- Full suspended chassis allows spraying speeds up to 20km/h and road transport speeds up to 40km/h.
- No vehicle movements are transferred to the spray boom that can cause instability and poor spray distribution.
- Always maximum suspension travel, independent from loads (full or empty solution tank).
- The auto load levelling system always ensures maximum travel up and down under conditions of changing weight.
- Struts allow only vertical movements of the suspension for improved stability and traction on hills.
- Long lasting rubber material, unaffected by chemicals.
The large suspension travel of +/- 100 mm (200 mm in total) compensates hardest shocks, even at high spraying speeds on uneven terrain.

The multi mode 4-wheel steering on the 5430i sprayer is used to improve manoeuvrability of the sprayer and minimize crop damage when making a headland turn as well as to reduce ground pressure and soil compaction when working in crab mode.
You can choose between three different steering modes:
- 2-wheel steering
- 4-wheel steering (coordinated steering)
- Crab steering
The selection of the steering mode can be chosen either by 2 momentary rocker switches on the CommandArm control, a floor switch in front of the steering column or by using the Headland Management System (HMS) in the GS2600 display.
PowerTech Plus engine

Proven Technology
The 6.8L Tier III John Deere PowerTech Plus engine provide higher efficiency and reliable power for tough spraying conditions. It gives you up to 169 kW (230 hp) (ECE R24), resulting in a top spraying speed of 20 km/h, and a top transport speed of 40 km/h at reduced engine speed. All engines have proven full authority electronic engine management providing reliable power torque characteristics.
4 valve cylinder & high pressure common rail
The ultimate combination of 4 valve technology and full electronically controlled engine management with High Pressure CommonRail technology giving unrivalled performance and low fuel consumption:
- Extra-Power for increased field output.

- Constant High-Torque
The variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) provides a sufficient mass of combustion air for improved engine torque and a highly responsive engine acceleration.

The full frame concept
The engine is an integrated part of the full frame concept. The engine is connected to the frame using vibration absorbing isolators. This eliminates engine block stress and frame stress because the engine is not a structural part of the sprayer. You´ll also benefit from reduced noise and less vibration transfer to other components like cab chassis and spray boom.

Easy radiator access
The decentralisation of the heat exchangers/coolers clears the front end and gives much better access to the radiator for cleaning. The Dual Temperature Cooling radiator is protected by a separate super fine screen in the front to prevent blocking. For fast and easy cleaning, the screen can be pulled out to either side. An additional super fine screen in front of the condenser of the air conditioning system maximizes the protection of the Dual Temperature Cooling System.

Closed cooling system
The automotive-type closed cooling system contributes to excellent reliability and serviceability. The system is maintenance-free and maintains the correct coolant level for optimum cooling efficiency.
Drive Train

Fast road transport
The weather conditions are just right, the crop is ready, so you need to go at a moment’s notice – the reliable, powerful drive train allows up to 40 km/h on the road for more productive time in the field.
The John Deere Difference:
- Hydrostatic drive train with two position high speed wheel motors and mechanical final drives provide dependable performance under any conditions.

Pendulum System

Advanced boom suspension
The central pendulum system is the secret to spray accuracy. In conjunction with the high tensile, three-dimensional boom design it provides utmost boom stability under any spraying conditions. Our pendulum design has been leveraged from the 800 Series trailed sprayers and includes shock absorbers and an anti-yaw system, which isolates boom movement from the machine and provides superior boom stability and spray accuracy.

Central pendulum system
Rough fields and tough spraying conditions can have a major impact on spray quality. The John Deere spray booms feature a responsive suspension system that provides an accurate spray distribution. The spray boom is suspended vertically, horizontally and in the yaw direction. The central pendulum system features shock absorbers that dampen excessive boom swaying. The anti-yaw device has a horizontal degree of freedom that isolates the spray boom from machine movements in the yaw direction. Rubber blocks offer superb suspension and minimize any yaw movements to ensure a smooth boom ride and excellent performance under any spraying conditions.

Anti-Yaw Suspension
The anti-yawing device features multiple rubber blocks sandwiched between iron plates to allow the spray boom a certain degree of freedom in yaw direction and absorb shocks on uneven terrain, when accelerating or slowing down and during fast headland turns.
Pumps

Piston diaphragm pumps
The 5430i can be equipped with various pump options to precisely match different application rates, spraying speeds and filling requirements:
| Pump(s) | Filling | Spraying and Agitation |
| 280 l/min | 280 l/min | 280 l/min |
| 700 l/min | 700 l/min | 280 l/min |
| 2 x 280 l/min | 560 l/min (pump 1+2) | 280 + 280 l/min (pump 1+2) |
The piston diaphragm pumps are driven by a hydraulic oil motor and speed is software-controlled to ensure that the pump(s) are always running within the optimum speed range with minimized wear and continuous high output. The pumps are genuine positive displacement pumps.
The drive train of the pump is completely separated from the spray liquid with a flexible diaphragm in each cylinder. The diaphragm is attached to a piston and completely supported by oil from the crankcase.
You will benefit from:
- self priming: filling can start with a totally empty tank, filling from a deeper source is possible.
- high output: ability to spray with high volumes and/or spraying at higher speeds while fully maintaining a powerful agitation, enables quick filling of the tank, opportunity to spray with lower engine speed in many cases where full output is not required.
- high pressure available: high pressure available for working with low drift air induction nozzle (recommended pressure from 5 to 8 bars), high pressure (8-10 bar) available for auxiliary functions which require pressure (agitation, inductor, tank cleaning, etc.).
- positive displacement: pump output remains is nearly independent from pressure - delivers both pressure and capacity, excellent characteristic for stable application rate control.
- trouble free operation: will run dry without any damage (not with piston pumps or centrifugal pumps).
- low dead volume.

Piston Diaphram pump control
During spraying the PD pumps can be engaged/disengaged via a switch on the CommandArm control in the cab. During filling operations switch on the Solution Command Panel at the operator station has to be used.

Fast fill centrifugal pump
In addition to the single or double pump option, the 5430i sprayer can also be ordered with a 700 litre fast fill centrifugal pump in conjunction with the 280 l/min piston diaphragm pump.

Pump oil level sensor
The 5430i piston diaphragm pumps are standard equipped with an oil level sensor to reduce the risk of any damage to the pump. If the oil level is too low or too high a warning will be given via the GreenStar Display.
Solution tank

The 4000 l solution tank is built of rugged, high-strength polyethylene, and is shaped to allow complete emptying. Rinse nozzles ensure complete washout. High-pressure agitation nozzles keep chemicals suspended and thoroughly mixed during spraying. Agitation capacity automatically decreases when liquid level in the solution tank drops down below a certain value. In addition a value can be pre-programmed to shut-off agitation completely.
The 5430i features a Solution Command system that fully automates the complete washout of the sprayer. It's simple and fast… just select the areas and everything is done automatically.

Tank volume
The solution tank has an extra tank volume above the nominal tank volume which is significantly higher.
- extra volume to prevent overfilling (e.g. foaming).
- larger tank capacity for non-foaming chemicals.
|
Sprayer |
Nominal Tank |
Maximum Tank | Extra Volume |
| 5430i | 4000 litre | 4440 litre | +10% |

Supporting brackets & belt fixing
The tank of the 5430i sprayer is not bolted or screwed to the chassis to prevent any risk for stress cracks due to chassis flexing during high speed transport. The tank is completely integrated and supported by a separate frame and fixed with two belts. This additional supporting frame is bolted to the chassis of the 5430i for easier maintenance and faster removal.

Mechanical tank level indicator
The level of liquid in the solution tank is measured by a float fitted centrally in the tank. The mechanical tank level indicator comprises:
- polyethylene float (chemical resistant), centrally mounted inside the tank guided by vertical stainless steel rods to minimize the impact of machine position on accuracy.
- stainless steel cable guided through rolls for durability and accuracy.

Digital tank level indicator
In addition to the mechanical tank level gauge, a digital tank level read-out is base equipment on all 5430i series sprayers. An extremely sensitive and accurate pressure sensor (0-250 mbar / 0-20 mA) is mounted near the bottom of the tank (sump) to measure precisely the tank level.
With the digital tank level sensor, the GreenStar display provides additional information besides the actual tank volume while spraying:
- Actual tank content
- Remaining area to spray (calculates remaining area that can still be sprayed with current tank volume and application rate)
- Remaining distance to spray (calculates remaining distance that can still be sprayed with current tank volume, application rate and boom width (active sections)
Operator station

Central operator station
The central operator station on the left hand side of the sprayer provides superior access to all functions including spraying, filling, rinsing and agitation. Clearly allocated symbols keep the risk of operator mistakes to a minimum. It comprises the following functions:
- Hand wash tank
- Chemical storage box
- Solution Command Panel
- Two compartment clothing locker
- Chemical inductor
- Filling connection clean water tank

The StarFire iTC Receiver utilizes a 10-channel engine to pick up signals from the Global Positioning System satellites and from the John Deere differential correction network. Using these signals, the StarFire iTC receiver can pinpoint it's location with perfect accuracy. Moving the receiver from one machine to another is simple with the John Deere quick attach brackets. StarFire iTC – select the accuracy you want.
Automation

Can I be confident of good spray accuracy?
The accuracy of the 5430i is down to a combination of perfect boom stability, an air suspended vehicle and the John Deere i-Solutions spraying package:

AutoTrac – automatic steering ensures perfect tramlines every time. It reduces overlap and minimizes skips, saves expensive chemicals, cuts down on crop damage and reduces operator fatigue during long working days.

BoomTrac –increases productivity by enabling the use of wider booms and maximizes spray accuracy and efficiency by automatically maintaining a more consistent boom height above the crop, increasing leaf coverage and penetration while reducing drift.
Two ultrasonic sensors mounted at each end of the boom measure the height of the boom wings above the target. If the slope of the field changes and the spray boom is no longer level to the ground or crop surface the active boom control system corrects the boom tilt and height automatically to level the boom.

Sprayer Pro – automatically switches boom sections and the master on/off when you pass through an area you’ve sprayed previously e.g. on irregular shaped fields or at the headland, preventing over- and under dosing and wasted chemicals.
Three different operating modes can be selected:
- Minimize overlap
- Minimize skips
- Settings of percentage overlap (10% steps)
Sprayer Pro either avoids any overlap when spraying for example aggressive herbicides to avoid crop damage, or it can be set to prevent any skips to ensure a proper coverage when for example spraying fungicides. As soon as the first nozzle at “minimize overlap” or the last nozzle at “minimize skips” reaches the already covered area the complete spray boom section is switched off. To spray extremely sensitive crops with the highest accuracy, a certain percentage of overlap (10% step adjustment) can be chosen in the GreenStar display.
